When was the last time you gave your feet some thought? The feet are often victims of “out of sight, out of mind”, and outside of the summer season they’re rarely given the love and respect they deserve. Epsom salt for feet is a simple way to give back to a part of the body that gives you so much.

The Feet Work Hard

10,000 steps per day are recommended to keep up with optimal daily activity for health, and it’s also said that people should spend around two hours standing or moving around each day to keep their bodies active. This means we’re relying on our feet to carry the rest of our body through exercise, activity, and all of those steps that keep us going throughout the day. Feet are built for it, they’re used to it, but that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve some TLC every once in a while.

Epsom Soaks For The Feet

After really looking at how hard the feet work each day, it becomes easy to see just why the feet would need a little relaxation. Epsom salt is also known as Magnesium Sulfate, and magnesium is a powerful ingredient for soothing and relaxation. Surrounding the feet in magnesium through USP grade epsom salt is like comforting the feet in pure natural relaxation.

It’s important to note that not all foot soaks are created equal, and neither are all epsom salts. When looking into a great soak for the feet, prioritize USP grade and certified epsom salt for safety and efficacy. USP grade and certified epsom salts meet all standards of the United States Pharmacopeia, and they’re guaranteed for potency, authenticity, and quality. By seeking out the real deal, you get to experience maximum benefit in a safe and reliable way.

How Is Foot Soaking Done?

Foot soaking is simple, and many feel it’s more accessible than taking a full bath if you have a busy schedule. You can take a foot soak in a soaking basin or a traditional bathtub, and it only takes about 20 minutes to a half hour to complete.

First choose your soaking area. The bathtub is a popular choice, but it’s not the only choice. A soaking basin is convenient, it wastes less water, and it can be taken to different locations to enjoy different environments during your soak. For instance, the basin can be taken out on a porch or patio, filled with warm water, and enjoyed while listening to the soothing sounds of nature all around.

Once you’ve found your soaking area of choice, it’s time to fill up the tub. Use water that is comfortably warm and soothing but take care to make sure it’s not too hot. Water that is too hot may be uncomfortable, taking away from the soothing effect you want out of your overall soak experience. The tub or basin should be filled with a few inches of warm water; just enough to cover the feet up to the ankles.

After being filled with warm water, it’s time to add your epsom salt soak. In terms of amount, you should use between 1 and 2 tablespoons of soak per gallon of water, and it’s recommended to start on the lower end before increasing your amount. You may find that you prefer a more subtle soak with 1 tablespoon per gallon, or you may find that a stronger concentration works best for you as you learn more about your own soaking preferences. Once your soak has been added, agitate the water to ensure the salt has completely dissolved before settling in.

Once the soak has dissolved, it’s time to rest, relax, and revive. Take time to feel the warm water hugging the feet, breathe deep the aroma coming from the essential oils, and enjoy the sensations of relief and relaxation as they come over you. Your soak should last for around 15 to 20 minutes for maximum effect. After the soak time is complete, simply pat the skin dry.

For an additional pampering using epsom salt, you may wish to exfoliate your feet at the end of your soak. To do this, take a small palm full of your chosen soak and rub your feet with the salt to slough away any dead skin. After rubbing, rinse your feet off and that’s all there is to it.

After you pat dry, you may decide to finish up your pampering session with a moisturizer for a soft and renewed feeling.
