After giving birth, women naturally direct all of their care and attention to their babies. While understandable and common, it’s also never been more important for new moms to partake in valuable self-care practices, like an epsom salt postpartum bath soak.
Let's find out why it's the kind of self-care regimen that new mothers may incorporate into their leisure time.
Why Bath Salts With Essential Oils For An Epsom Salt Postpartum Soak?
Bath salts are naturally relaxing, helping new moms ease the tension they may be feeling as they break into this soothing new routine. It gives moms a little time to themselves, as the essential oils work to invoke feelings of upliftment, relaxation, invigoration, clarity, and grounding.
Pure essential oils provide the authentic aromas of the plants they were derived from. They use no synthetic fragrances, and they work to give the same feelings that one would have when they smell these scents in real life –– the calm of walking through a field of lavender, the sweetness of real geranium, the energy one feels when they smell a cut lemon, or the freshness of eucalyptus.
By keeping things natural and authentic, new moms can enjoy these aromas and transport themselves to beautiful places right from the comfort of their own bath.
Our Postpartum Sitz Bath Soak at Better Bath Better Body is made especially for new moms. It is made of USP Grade epsom salt, nourishing fractionated MCT coconut oil, vitamin C crystals, vitamin E oil, and essential oils of frankincense, lavender, geranium, chamomile, and lemon.
Frankincense grounds the blend, lavender provides a relaxing element, geranium offers sweetness, and lemon is the perfect zing to add a bit of invigoration to the blend.
Sitz Baths For New Moms
New moms work hard to bring their little ones into the world, and there’s usually quite a bit of discomfort left behind. Sitz baths are a great way to incorporate an epsom salt soak ritual into their lives.
These baths focus primarily on the bottom area, and they use epsom salt and essential oils to ease discomfort from hemorrhoids and soothe the lower area while encouraging relaxation.
A sitz bath can be taken two ways. First, special basins are available specifically for taking sitz baths. These are attached to the toilet bowl, allowing the filling and emptying of the bath to be carried out easily and cleanly. They can be attached to any standard toilet bowl, and they’re simple to store when not in use.
To soak in a sitz bath, attach the bath to the toilet bowl first. Once attached, fill the bath with warm water. After the bath has been filled, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of your chosen soak per gallon of water.
We recommend trying our Sitz Bath Soak, an epsom salt blend infused with pure essential oils of lavender, geranium, frankincense, juniper, and niaouli. Or maybe our Lilliuma Sitz Bath Salt, which has a Mediterranean sea salt base is more up your alley.
If you’re new to sitz baths, use 1 tablespoon of soak and work your way up to 2 as you get comfortable. Sit and soak for around 20 minutes before carefully and slowly lifting from the bath, tipping the basin into the toilet bowl, and patting your body dry.
If you only have a standard bathtub, you may take a sitz bath in it, too. Fill the bathtub with around 3 to 4 inches of warm water, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of soak per gallon, and sit in the tub to soak for around 20 minutes.
Embracing Your New Self-Care Ritual
Once you have your sitz bath set up and your soak picked out, you’re now ready to relax and take some time off. You can even choose an activity to pass the time. This is a valuable period of comfort, relaxation, and rebalancing, so you can bring other elements into your ritual that enhance that experience for you.
You may decide to bring a speaker into the bathroom to enjoy a little music while you soak, light some candles, and get into a completely relaxed mood.
As you soak, this is a perfect time to catch up on a favorite book, watch a show you love, or simply lay back and enjoy the calm. It’s these moments of personal calm when you can regroup and recenter, giving yourself what you need to make the most of this very special time.
