The 7 Health Benefits Of Thyme Essential Oil

Thyme is a rather common herb that is often used as a condiment or spice. That aside, thyme has been used in several herbal and domestic medicines. Many of the health benefits of thyme essential oil can be attributed to its properties as an antiseptic, antispasmodic, bactericidal, cardiac, emenagogue, stimulant, and tonic substance.

  1. Antispasmodic – Tons of people around the world suffer from coughs, cramps, and aches due to spasms. Spasms are unwelcomed and excessive involuntary contractions which may take place in the nerves, muscles, respiratory tracts, intestines, or other organs. This may end up resulting in several different symptoms including convulsions, coughs, cramps, muscular aches, and abdominal and intestinal aches.
  2. Antiseptic – Thyme essential oil is a wonderful antiseptic and protects wounds and sores against infections. This is mostly due to the presence of components such as Camphene and Caryophyllene in thyme.
  3. Bactericidal – The same components that contain antiseptic properties also gives thyme its essential oil antibacterial properties as well. These properties inhibits bacterial growth within and outside of the body. Not only does this kill bacteria, but it keeps them from getting to your organs as well. This can be especially beneficial in curing bacterial infections such as B-Colitis, renal colic, and bacterial infections in the intestines, respiratory system, genitals, and urethra.
  4. Cardiac – This is one of thyme’s most useful properties, especially with the increasing amount of heart problems plaguing Americans. This essential oil does wonders for the heart including keeping the valves functioning property, relaxing arteries and veins, and reducing the blood pressure and stress on the heart. That aside, thyme essential oil is also great at strengthening cardiac muscles and toning up the heart.
  5. Emenagogue – This property is especially helpful to women. Whether it is painful menstruation, irregular periods, or premature menopause, thyme essential oil to just what you need. This oil’s emenagogue quality provides relief for abdominal pain, fatigue, nausea, low blood pressure, and even depression. How does thyme do this? This essential oil is great at stimulating certain hormones such as estrogen.
  6. Stimulant – Thyme essential oil is great at stimulating the circulation, digestion, nervous responses, and the secretion of hormones. This also allows thyme is stimulate the metabolism as well.
  7. Tonic – Thyme essential oil is wonderful for toning up the circulatory system, heart, nervous system, digestive system, muscles, and skin while also fortifying them and boosting your immune system.

So how can I use thyme essential oil to add something extra to my bath?

It’s actually pretty simple. Once you have filled your bathtub halfway with warm water, you take around 2 to 3 drops of thyme essential oil and mix it into the bath water. Then you can just hop in and soak up the benefits. It is important to note that trying to substitute the spice for the essential oil will not be able to give you the same desired effect. However, feel free to mix it up with other essential oils or bath salts in order to get the most out of your bathing experience.
