Why Not Make Your Next Bath A Salty One?

why not make your next bath a salty one

Let's say its has been a long and stressful day at work. Your body is tense, and you haven't gotten much sleep the last few nights. When you finally come home, all you want to do is sit in the tub and soak for a while. After all, you deserve a bit of relaxation after such a hard day at the office. But why stop at drawing up warm water? Add something extra to your next bath with bath salts.

What Are Bath Salts?

Bath salts are a crystal-like substance that easily dissolves in water. They are used to soften or perfume bathwater, but they have been proven to have several other benefits as well. They can be used as a cleanser or scrub to help exfoliate your skin, ease discomfort in the body, or act as a fragrant element.

What Kind Of Bath Salts Are There?

There are several types of bath salts to address your unique needs. Their size, texture, and color can vary greatly. Read on to learn about a few basic salts you should know about.

Coarse bath salt has large grains about 2 to 3 millimeters in size, and it is often blended with scented oils and dyes. They are known to be therapeutic.

Dead Sea bath salts are wonderful for dry skin. However, they are also known for reducing pain.

Fine bath salts contain very small and almost powder-like grains. They can be easily blended with herbs and are mostly used as a facial and body scrub.

Hawaiian red bath salts, also known as Alaea sea salts, have a distinctive red color. They are highly recommended for bodily discomfort.

What About Pure Epsom Salt?

Surprisingly, Epsom salt is not salt at all. It is a pure mineral compound of magnesium sulfate in a crystallized form. Despite not being actual salt, Epsom salt has proven to be beneficial in baths. Please take note that you should not try to ingest it.

How Do I Use Bath Salts?

Bath salts, including Epsom salt, are quite easy to use. After filling the tub about halfway to your desired level, take about a cup or two of bath salts and add them to the warm water. It is best to pour the salt under the running facet to allow it to dissolve more quickly. Be sure to stir the water a bit to make sure the salt circulates evenly throughout the bathtub. Once you have done all that, you're ready to hop in and relax.

If you wish to use bath salts for exfoliating the skin, however, you will have to use them a little differently. First, you must opt for a fine-grain salt. Any other kind will be too harsh and rough. Once you take a small handful of your bath salts, add a small amount of water to it and work the mixture into a paste. Afterward, you can apply it to your skin and rub it in gently. Lastly, rinse the mixture off, and you will find that your skin is soft and smooth.
