Your hygiene says a lot about you, and it has a significant impact on your overall health, too. Even if you take a shower daily (and occasionally have those night baths), you might still be forgetting areas in your body that need more attention than you think. 

If you are the kind of person who just stands in the shower and cleans what you can reach and see, you should be aware of these areas in your body that need more attention.

Belly Button

The navel is one of the most overlooked parts of the body. Many of us don’t see it as something to clean regularly. We hardly pay attention to it, probably except for women who are pregnant.

However, did you know that the belly button can accumulate dirt? Not only can it collect lint, but it can also be a breeding ground for harmful organisms. So if you’ve ever put your finger in your belly button and smelled something funky, it’s because something is already breeding in it. 

This is the area in the body where the skin rests on skin, which creates a dark, moist environment desirable for certain organisms. 

The next time you step out of the shower, go on and clean that belly button with a cotton swab for the inner part, and use a cloth, sponge, or loofah for the outer part. Make sure to dry the entire area after you shower as well. 

Behind The Ears

Some people are obsessed with cleaning their ears, but experts say that doing so often isn’t good because you might be removing too much wax, which protects your ears. Another thing is that cotton swabs should not be used to clean your ear canal because you might accidentally cause damage to your eardrum. Unless you’re a doctor and you know your way around these things, it’s best to leave your ear canals alone. 

The one part that you should pay more attention to is the area behind your ears. If you think about it, this area gets less soap. Most of us don’t really spend time scrubbing this area, but since it’s hidden, it’s susceptible to being dirty. 

The skin on the back of the ear is usually moist due to oil. However, if there is excessive oiliness or if the area is not cleaned correctly, it may start to smell. 

To combat this, when you’re in the shower, make sure to wash that area with some soap. If you have other cleaning products specifically for the face, you can use those as well. 

Scalp

You might be washing your hair regularly and loving how good it smells all the time, but that doesn’t necessarily make your head thoroughly clean. Have you checked your scalp lately? 

Your scalp is often overlooked due to the mounds of hair on top of it. Most of us have also gotten into the habit of buying shampoos for our hair and not for the scalp.

Between The Toes

Whether you put something on your feet every day or not, it’s still your feet that come in closest contact with the floor. The floor has more dirt compared with most of the areas in your home, so imagine what you expose your feet to daily. 

When it comes to washing your feet, it’s not just about cleaning what you can see. So much dirt can accumulate between your toes, and yet it is one of the areas we often forget to clean. 

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Health Beat shares that the gunk some individuals see between their toes may be due to other issues. 

One of the best things about cleaning this area is that it’s easy, and you can do it every day. All you need to do is to pay attention to the spaces between your toes when washing your feet with soap and water. You can also use talcum powder to keep them dry. If you take a bath in the tub, see to it that you submerge your feet in the water as well. 

Back

Sadly, we don’t get to clean our backs thoroughly as much as we want to. We may even need some tools to help us reach our backs, and sometimes, the task can be so tedious that we end up skipping it and leaving it for another day. 

If you don’t clean your back properly, you can develop blemishes in the area. Your back is one of the largest areas in the body, and it is exposed to the sweat and dirt in your clothes most of the time. It’s even worse when you lie on your back often.
